Dustless Sanding Refinishing

Q. How long will it take to refinish my floors from start to finish?
An average job will take approximately 4 to 5 days depending on the job scope. Existing floors that need extensive repairs, stain application, and other attention can take longer.

Q. Is there any dust when sanding the floors?
To eliminate dust from the process, we use the “Atomic Trailer” Ultimate Dust Extraction System, which extracts over 99% of the dust. If you’re on a tighter budget, you may utilize our Basic Dust Containment System that extracts 80% - 85% of dust for a discounted rate.

Installation

Q. How long does it take to install and finish solid hardwood flooring?
Because solid hardwood flooring is a natural species, it is important that the floor you select is stored your home in the area that it’s going to be installed for pre-acclimation. This process will take approximately one week or until an accurate moisture reading is recorded. The installation itself will take 1 to 2 days depending on the scope of the job. Once the floors are installed, the floor will need to post-acclimate for approximately two weeks prior to sanding. This will allow the floor to expand without causing any cupping damage to the floor. Once full acclimation is complete, the floors are now ready to be sanded and finished. The finish process takes about four to five days.

Q. What if my hardwood floors are currently covered with carpet, tile or vinyl?
We will remove and dispose of any existing textiles that may be covering your existing hardwood floors, as well as prep the exposed hardwood floor for restoration.

Q. Will I need to move my furniture?

Yes, we do not move furniture. We can provide references for professional moving services upon request.

Q. Where do I store my furniture?
Many clients utilize other parts of their home, rental moving trucks, such as U-haul, or a home delivery storage container.

Q. When can we put our area rugs back down on the floor?
We recommend that you not put your area rugs back down for three weeks after the job is complete. This allows ample time for the floor to cure.

Q. When can we walk on the floors?
On average, you can walk on the floors approximately 24 to 36 hours after the application of the third finish coat.

Q. When can our pet walk on the floors?
Pets can walk on floors one to two days after finish is dry, depending on the size of the animal.

Q. How long does it take to cure the floors?
It will take approximately 2 to 3 weeks for oil-based finish to cure and one week for water based finish, depending on the weather conditions inside and outside the home.

Q. How long will the finish last?
The lifestyle of the home determines how long the finish will last. With regular maintenance cleaning, a floor finish can last several years. When the finish becomes dull there are several professional service maintenance methods, such as Elegant Floor’s No Sand Refinish method, available to bring back the luster without refinishing.

No-Sand Refinishing or Rx for Wood Floors

Q. What is No-Sand Refinishing?
No-Sand Refinishing (also called Rx for Wood Floors) is an affordable cosmetic maintenance method that provides a thorough clean plus a new application of two coats of water-based catalytic urethane finish.

Q. Do I have to move all my furniture out?
Yes unless otherwise specified. With this unique method, unlike with full sand restoration, we can also service around heavy furniture or area rugs if preferred. However, we recommend that you treat the entire floor without furniture. References of professional moving companies can be provided upon request.

Q. How can I tell if my floors need Rx for Wood floors not complete refinishing?
Rx for Wood floors is a cosmetic method; not all floor conditions are candidates for this process. Floors should be in a decent condition with the existing finish being semi-dull, showing minor scratches and gauges.

Q. Is there any dust with the Rx for Wood Floors process?
When we say No-Sand Refinish, we mean just that. Instead of sanding we chemically abrade the existing finish allowing additional coats of finish to adhere. Essentially, we are not removing any of your finish only evening it out and adding to it.

Q. How long does the Rx for Wood Floors process take?
Most jobs only take one day to complete, but it ultimately depends on the size and scope of the job.

Q. How many coats of finish are applied and is it water or oil based?
Two coats of water based catalytic urethane are applied. You may choose from three sheen selections: Gloss, Semi-Gloss and Satin.

Q. How long after service can I walk on the floors?
You can walk on the floors approximately three hours after the job is complete, in stocking feet only! You may walk on the floors with regular shoes after 24 hours. To avoid indentations, we recommend allowing two days after completion before walking on the floor with heels.

Q: Can plastic tips on my chairs prevent scuff marks on my floors?
Industry experts say that felt tips on chairs are a better option than plastic tips, which can mark floors.
